The Victorian Will and Powers of Attorney Registry

The Victorian Will and Powers of Attorney Registry is a free service we offer to all Victorians. You can choose to deposit and store your original documents in our secure will bank or you can keep your documents and only register the location of them with us.  

 

The storage and registry service will help executors and attorneys easily find your documents and make sure your wishes are followed when the time comes. These documents are your voice and it’s important to keep them safe.

Use this 3-step process to send us the original copies of your Will and Powers of Attorney documents to store safely. We’ll give them to your executor when the time comes.

Who can use the free document storage service?

All Victorian residents can store their will at The Victorian Will and Powers of Attorney Registry for free. It’s safe and secure and trusted by over 80,000 people across the state. For details, go here.

How does the free document storage work?

There are two options.

  1. Deposit and store a physical copy of your documents in our secure storage facility.
  2. Register the location of your documents to help make sure your documents are found by your executor when needed. We will only ever release the information to you or your chosen executor or attorney.

How long does it take to process my sent document?

You will receive a confirmation letter from us once we have received and securely stored your document. Please allow 4–6 weeks from when you mail your documents for processing.

How do I retrieve my documents?

To retrieve your document, call us at 1300 138 672 to make arrangements. Alternatively, you can submit your request via email to WillsAdministrationSupport@StateTrustees.com.au. 

Who can request my Will or Power of Attorney from State Trustees once stored?

During your lifetime, only you and anyone you grant permission to inspect or request a copy of your Will.  

After you pass away, Victorian law dictates who can inspect and make a copy of your Will. Those permitted include (but are not limited to) your Executor, your spouse and any person named or referred to in your Will. 

 

How do I notify State Trustees of any changes to my documents?

There are many reasons why you may need to update your registration. You may have a new Will or Power of Attorney document, have prepared additional Power of Attorney documents or the location of your documents has changed. You can visit here to update any of this information including your personal information in case that has also changed. 

How do I send my documents to State Trustees for storage?

Simply download and print our deposit form, then mail it along with your original will or power of attorney document to: The Victorian and Powers of Attorney Registry Reply Paid 1461 Melbourne VIC 8060 

Before sending, we recommend keeping a copy of the original document for your records.
